</div>
Was inspired to cook recently (which is rare) and this was what I came up with..<br />
<br />
Made some Yasai Tempura consisting of eggplant, pumpkin and mushrooms... noticed the cut out flower design just like in the restaurants? :) Even had the little grated daikon radish mini tower.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is my take on a simple home style noodle soup... I replaced the noodles with macaroni instead... soup was from scratch with the basic onion, garlic, dried anchovies and sliced pork... Also added loads of cabbage to give the extra sweetness to the soup. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I decided to change my URL to match the title of the blog and shift it to blogspot. The blog url that is watermarked on previous pictures will no longer be valid.<br />
<br />
The new home for all my foodie postings would be <a href="http://www.justsimplyfood.blogspot.com/">http://www.justsimplyfood.blogspot.com/</a><br />

So we went, had to wait outside because they were full (I wonder why... haha!) but we were given the menu and about 15 mins later our order was taken... 5 mins later we were given our table... What was astonishing was 3 mins later ALL the food came... and I mean ALL!!! It was shockingly fast! haha! and we didn't order very little...<br />
<br />
We get a plate with a banana leaf cut out placed on the base and a bowl of "scoop your own" red rice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-037-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4616" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-037-1.jpg" title="290111 037-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-038-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4617" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-038-1.jpg" title="290111 038-1" width="490px" /></a></div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-037-1.jpg"></a><br />
<br />
Let's start with the appetizers... We ordered my favourite Thai appetizer which was the Tod Man Plah - handmade deep fried thai fish cakes. It was pretty normal in flavours and I definitely have had better even from roadside store in Thailand but don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. It lacked the certain chewiness which I like in fish cakes and it was just on the bland side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-039-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4618" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-039-1.jpg" title="290111 039-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then we had PoPiah Tod - Deep Fried Hand-Rolled Springrolls with Braised Glass Noodle, Dried Shrimp and Assorted Vegetables. I couldn't catch much of the taste because I had the salad first. My mouth was so full of spice I didn't find this dish impressive either. The filling was not seasoned enough although it was beautifully fried and crispy to the bite. Perhaps I will not judge too much on this dish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-041-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4620" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-041-1.jpg" title="290111 041-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now it gets better from here. :) We had Som Tam Malakor - Hand-pounded Green Papaya with Dried Prawns & Peanuts. This I loved. It was super spicy although it looks very unasuming. One bite and you feel the spiciness filling your mouth right to the back of your throat. I had just the right amount of fish sauce so it wasn't too salty. The papaya was fresh and the tomatoes were juicy...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-040-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4619" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-040-1.jpg" title="290111 040-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Next up was myElephant Tom Yum Seafood - myElephant’s SUPER Spicy Tom Yum with Aromatic Fresh Thai Herbs. They were not kidding about the SUPER Spicy. It wasn't the normal chili spicy but it had a certain heat to it. It just hits you the second you put it in your mouth. You could feel the heat up your nostrils. This bowl of Tom Yum was so filled herbs that you could not drink a spoonful of the soup without something else landing in your spoon... It was a tad salty which coupled with the heat just made you reach for a glass of water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-042-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4621" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-042-1.jpg" title="290111 042-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
We also ordered the Gaeng Phet Yaeng - Roast Duck Curry with Seasonal Fruit. This time the seasonal fruit was lychee and green grapes. The lychee was just scrumptious. It was juicy and the when you take a bite of it, the combination of sweet lychee juice coupled with the savoury spicy flavours of the curry was simply yum! It just made me smile. The roast duck was tender and well seasoned. The whole dish was just a nice balance of savoury curry with hints of sweetness from the fruits which made it less heavy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-043-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4622" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-043-1.jpg" title="290111 043-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Last dish of the night was the ‘Snow’ Fish - Salt-baked Fish with My Elephant’s Signature Green Chilli Sauce. Although we were left wondering how they could serve this up in 10 mins flat but once we took a bite, it didn't matter. The fish was very fresh. It didn't even require the chili sauce as the salt has permeated into the flesh of the fish just enough to lend its saltiness. It was perfectly baked to the right degree of firmness without drying the fish out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-044-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4623" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-044-1.jpg" title="290111 044-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
One thing I got to say is don't order everything that we ordered if you only had 2 people eating. It is a lot of food.<br />

As we drove into the road leading to the place we could already see cars parked along the sides of the road and when we spotted the place we knew why. There were hoards of people, okay maybe not hoards but there was quite a big crowd in the boulangerie...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01652-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4601" height="614px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01652-1.jpg?w=576" title="DSC01652-1" width="346px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />

We had a Caramel Nut Danish which was quite interesting but a tad difficult to eat... definitely needs to be eaten separately. :) The nuts were crunchy and sticky at the same time and the danish was pretty good as well...</div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Next up a Turkey Ham Epi which I quite enjoy as well. :)</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01655-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4603" height="275px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01655-1.jpg" title="DSC01655-1" width="490px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01659-1.jpg"></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">This next one is my favourite. It's called the Chocolate French Toast but essentially it is bread with layers of chocolate swirling... Hmmm.. Yum!!</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01658-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4606" height="614px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01658-1.jpg?w=576" title="DSC01658-1" width="346px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">I bought this next one to take home and it was called Baumkuchen which is a traditional french layer cake layered with maple in a circular shape... The maple was just the right level of sweetness that it didn't leave your mouth tasting of maple. Do admire the work that goes into this cake.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-033-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4599" height="614px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-033-1.jpg?w=768" title="290111 033-1" width="461px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01655-1.jpg"></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Now for the mains.... We ordered just 2 since there was only 2 of us... Started off with their Creamy Mushroom Chicken Soup which was definitely not skimping on the cream... It was so creamy I couldn't take it but my sis whallopped it all down... Then again she likes cabonara and I don't so go figure... :) I would have appreciated it more if they used proper button mushroom instead of the canned ones.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01656-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4604" height="275px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01656-1.jpg" title="DSC01656-1" width="490px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">We also ordered a Beef Aglio Olio which I found surprisingly good... the beef was tender and the spaghetti was just al dente... it has the right amount of olive oil to coat each strand...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01653-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4602" height="275px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01653-1.jpg" title="DSC01653-1" width="490px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01657-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4605" height="614px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01657-1.jpg?w=576" title="DSC01657-1" width="346px" /></a></div>and then there was desserts.... :) I order a cake called Le Sultan which was a Moist Mud Cake, Coffee Butter-cream and Dark Ganache. It sounded better than it tasted. Not that it was bad, it was fine but it was just that fine. It was missing the rich chocolate taste which I was expecting considering this place is owned by Beryl's. So that was a tad of a let down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01661-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4609" height="275px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01661-1.jpg" title="DSC01661-1" width="490px" /></a></div>Washing it all down was our drinks for the day... a hot cup of Cappucino and a Hot Chocolate. The Cappucino was nice and fragrant but pity it wasn't served with a nice coffee art. The Hot Chocolate has loads of melted chocolate making it too sweet for my taste.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01660-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4608" height="614px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01660-1.jpg?w=576" title="DSC01660-1" width="346px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01661-1.jpg"></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">All in all I enjoyed my brunch... I like the ambience and the food was good.. Will definitely be back and this time, I will leave room for the macaroons... :D</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01667-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4610" height="275px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/dsc01667-1.jpg" title="DSC01667-1" width="490px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />

It boasted an award winning chef and a pretty interesting menu...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-012-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4585" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-012-1.jpg" title="290111 012-1" width="490px" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-013-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4586" height="502px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-013-1.jpg?w=768" title="290111 013-1" width="377px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">I started the meal with a traditional vietnamese tea... It was a combination of a variety of spices which somewhat felt familiar to me but yet I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It started off quite pungent but as you drank it more it became quite pleasant.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-015-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4587" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-015-1.jpg" title="290111 015-1" width="490px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-016-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4588" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-016-1.jpg" title="290111 016-1" width="490px" /></a></div>As for the food, we started off with a combo platter... Overall each item felt under seasoned and the usual sugarcane prawn paste was replaced by lemongrass instead... Although I do quite like the taste of lemongrass so I wasn't complaining but I think it does reduce the sweetness it could have had if the sugarcane was used... The manager of the restaurant was nice enough to explain to us how we should eat the dish with the condiments that came with it but I really dislike the taste of basil and it just made things taste worse. I just feel that when you put certain herbs which have a pungent flavour to it, it makes the dish lose the rest of it's flavour. We then ordered a fish cooked with dill in claypot which was served with noodles... (can't quite remember the dish's name). The fish wasn't entirely the freshest fish around and the tonne of basil thrown in did not help the taste... It just made every mouthful basil-ey.... Eww.... Yes it was supposed to be cooked with dill and there was a lot of dill too but when compared, the basil won hands down...<br />
<br />

Until you look closer and it was once again filled with basil... Uuurrgghh... the entire meal was feeling like a one note.... :( It the chef did not get his basil delivery for the day, he might not be able to cook anything... Although I do understand that basil is quite a staple in the vietnamese diet but it cant be in everything right? If we were to just extract the taste of basil out of these dishes, the flavours are actually not too bad....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-021-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4591" height="367px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/290111-021-1.jpg" title="290111 021-1" width="490px" /></a></div>The final dish of the day was the red noodle served with a soup... it came with crushed prawn crackers and nuts... This was the only dish without the basil. This was definitely the redeeming dish for this restaurant. I really like this noodle. Not sure whether it is because of the basil overload so anything without taste good or it really was good... <br />
<br />
Oh well, don't think I will try it again anytime soon but I think if you really like basil then this is definitely the place for you.<br />

The place has a unique decor with bricks on the curved ceiling and wood panelling on the wall. To me it looked like the owners tried to be creative and shifted the floors to the walls and the walls to the ceiling. Haha! :D<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01622-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4558" height="682px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01622-1.jpg" title="DSC01622-1" width="384px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01623-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4559" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01623-1.jpg" title="DSC01623-1" width="640px" /></a></div>We started off with a serving of Roasted Pork Belly served with mustard and aioli. The skin was nice and crunchy and the meat was tender and tasty... This was a good start.Then we had the smoked duck salad with vinagrette. It was a not too bad salad. The duck was smoked well and was tasty but the vinagrette was a tad salty for me.<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01628-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4560" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01628-1.jpg" title="DSC01628-1" width="640px" /></a>Then it went downhill from there... We had an order or Lam Yee Pork which was a fermented beancurd seasoned fried pork. Although fermented beancurd is salty but this was beyond salty. The amount of salt there was in this dish I was sure it came free with the pork they bought. Not funny when it made us all very thirsty.<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01630-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4561" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01630-1.jpg" title="DSC01630-1" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
We then had the Angel Hair Pasta which was served with fried pork. The first thing that hit me when I tasted it besides the obvious amount of salt in it was how much it resembles the "Siu Yok Meen" in Petaling Street. Instead of egg noodles they served it with angel hair pasta but that is all the difference. The pork belly was also cooked in the same sweet and spicy style but seriously all I truly remembered was how salty it was.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01638-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4562" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01638-1.jpg" title="DSC01638-1" width="640px" /></a>After that came the much talked about bacon fried rice. Bacon who? All I tasted was "Lap Cheong" and when I commented that to one of the waiter he told me it was a combination of bacon and chinese sausage. I just could not for the life of me taste the bacon. Where?<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01640-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4563" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01640-1.jpg" title="DSC01640-1" width="640px" /></a>By far the most disappointing dish was the Braised Lamb... It was much talked about in many blogs so I had my hopes up but when it came and we sliced through it.. Immediately we knew it had not been braised long enough. Lo behold the meat was on the tough side and the taste of lamb was very apparent. It has not had time to braise fully and absorb the flavours of the gravy. The flavours were all there in the gravy and it was served with a pretty good and buttery mash potato and some ratatouille but unfortunately the star of the dish did not shine.<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01644-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4564" height="360px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01644-1.jpg" title="DSC01644-1" width="640px" /></a><br />
<br />
Doubt I will be coming back considering my experience.<br />

From young I was very selective over what kind of vegetables I eat but ironically I have learnt to take bitter gourd in recent years... so when I was recommended this place by a friend and I decided to give it a go... As per the name of the shop, they really served everything and everything to do with bitter gourd from soups to dishes to teas all infused with bitter gourd some way or the other...<br />
<br />
We ordered the bitter gourd meehoon soup and some crispy fried pork which was one of their signature dishes... I don't believe I am saying this but I absolutely love the soup... It was basically a pork and bitter gourd soup served with loads of thinly sliced bitter gourd.. I won't lie and say it wasn't bitter but the bitterness was somehow not too strong for me.. There was a hint of bitterness that when taken with a slice of bird's eye chilli just gave a good punch of spicy and bitter. I ended up finishing the whole bowl of noodles in a jiffy... and it wasn't a small bowl.. haha!<br />
<br />

It had a crispy outer layer with a tasty tender center... It is surprisingly one of the better "Hakka Char Yok" that I have tasted though it was a tad oily.<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-069-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4553" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-069-1.jpg" title="10012011 069-1" width="640px" /></a></address><br />

It tasted good by itself and it also taste good with accompanying the other items we ordered. We also ordered grilled sardines which I wasn't too enthusiastic about just cause I wasn't a fan of sardines but boy was I proven wrong.. the sardines were beautifully seasoned and grilled (despite looking a bit too charred) which made them really tasty.. Yum.. It also went well with a bit of the pate. We also ordered some champignons cooked with some garlic and butter just because both of us love mushrooms... It tasted pretty good although it was a tad too oily for me considering we like dipping our bread into the sauce.I then decide that we could try something new on the menu which was beef patties served with tomato sauce... This we didnt like... It was actually beef patties breaded and fried but it didn't have much flavour to it except the beefy taste coated in tomato sauce... this is definitely not recommended although it looks good.Last item for the day was a standard order for me... I have always ordered the grilled lamb cutlets every time I go to La Bodega but since my friend was not a lamb fan, I ordered a single cutlet. Tasted good as usual. :)<br />

We started the meal off a Mixed Grill Platter which was essentially a combo plate of Sugarcane Shrimp, Fried Springrolls, Grilled Beef and Chicken served with some fresh vege and rice vermicelli. It came with 4 pieces of rice paper to wrap the goodies with. The whole platter was better than expected. The grilled beef and chicken had a slight charred and lemon grassy taste to it which I liked. The springrolls and sugarcane shrimp were pretty run off the mill but it still tasted good. What I liked best was wrapping the rolls since I like interactive food. :)<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-050-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4534" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-050-1.jpg" title="10012011 050-1" width="640px" /></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-052-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4535" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-052-1.jpg" title="10012011 052-1" width="640px" /></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-057-1.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4538" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-057-1.jpg" title="10012011 057-1" width="640px" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;">Then we ordered another appetiser which was the Steamed Rice Wrapped Rolls which was similar to a chee cheong fun with chicken, shrimp and mushroom. The fish sauce which the rolls were served in was a tad too salty but it tasted real good. The rice wraps were nice and thin and the filling was tasty.After that we decided to share one main just to keep it light so we ordered the Hue Style Beef Noodles which was beef fillet and brisket served with rice noodles in a mildly spicy broth... It came with some raw bean sprouts and lime which I didn't bother to put in since I didn't like my bean sprouts raw but it definitely tasted as advertised. Mildly spicy the broth had a nice body and depth that you could taste that it was made from a pretty good stock. if I had one complaint it would be that the chilli sauce could have been better but then again that was not the main component of the dish.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-054-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4536" height="512px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-054-1.jpg" title="10012011 054-1" width="384px" /></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-056-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4537" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-056-1.jpg" title="10012011 056-1" width="640px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-048-1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4533" height="512px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/10012011-048-1.jpg" title="10012011 048-1" width="384px" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01540.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1916" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01540.jpg" title="DSC01540" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
Our meal was kicked off with a Fried Octopus Salad which was not really my choice of salad because of the baby octopus but surprisingly it actually taste quite good.. It was not gooey which was a definitely a plus point for me.. The salad itself was ordinary and the house dressing was ordinary as well.. The fried baby octopus really stood out in this dish.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015531.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1919" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015531.jpg" title="DSC01553" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
Next was a salmon maki which was simple and nice... There isn't much to say about this as it was pretty standard fair.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015531.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01547.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1917" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01547.jpg" title="DSC01547" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
We also ordered a spider maki with caviar on top which was also a standard dish with a slight twist but not enough to make it any way more special.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01547.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015701.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1922" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015701.jpg" title="DSC01570" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
Of course the sashimi is never forgotten.. It also marks how fresh the food is in a Japanese Restaurant this was really good...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015701.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015591.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1920" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015591.jpg" title="DSC01559" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
Next we ordered a mixed mushroom dish which consistend of 3 different mushrooms cooked in butter and garlic.. I obviously loved this dish because I love mushrooms but without being biased it really was good... Everyone at the table concurred.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015591.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01550.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1918" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01550.jpg" title="DSC01550" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
We also ordered bake scallop with cheese... it was very flavourful but a tad chewy around the edges.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01550.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015621.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1921" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015621.jpg" title="DSC01562" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
Another dish we ordered was the Kaki Furai which was fried oysters. The batter was too thick and the oyster kind of dried out a bit and was not as juicy as expected.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015731.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1923" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015731.jpg" title="DSC01573" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015731.jpg"></a>Next came the grilled salmon... This was really nicely seasoned. It was tasty by itself without the sauce.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015751.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1924" height="815px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015751.jpg" title="DSC01575" width="458px" /></a></div><br />
Last dish of the night was the 3 types of cold noodles. They served chasoba, zarusoba and inaniwa all in one boat.. I definitely liked the fact that they offered this combination to give more variety. It was a refreshing way to end a meal.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015751.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015761.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015841.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1926" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015841.jpg" title="DSC01584" width="655px" /></a><br />

<br />
As usual they serve the customary bread which in this case was really customary as it wasn't anything special...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01506.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1907" height="698px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01506.jpg" title="DSC01506" width="393px" /></a></div><br />
Then we ordered the <strong>Antipasto casalingo di terra per due o quattro persone (2 persons) </strong>which consisted of Vitello tonnato, beef carpaccio, zucchini parmigiana, tomato caprese, smoked duck. Surprisingly although the platter looked a tad messy it was quite good... the beef carpaccio was fresh, the zucchini parmigiana was a tasty combination of flavours, the tomato caprese was pretty normal. I didnt quite care for the duck, it tasted okay but nothing great and the vitello tonnato was a tad too drenched with the sauce for such thin slices but it did taste quite good after you scrape some of the sauce off.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01510.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1908" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01510.jpg" title="DSC01510" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
:) I like the fact that a small pot of chilli flakes were placed on our table... I like them with my pizza.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01510.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01516.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1909" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01516.jpg" title="DSC01516" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
Next item we ordered was the <strong>Pizza Quattro Stagioni </strong>which was a quartet with tomato, mozzarella, turkey ham, beef pepperoni, mushrooms, artichoke. I am not an artichoke fan so I shall not comment on that since I didn't eat that quarter. The crust was not the standard thin crust that quite a number of places serve but it wasn't too thick as to taste too much of crust and not enough topping. The 3 other quarters were simple but tasted good.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01516.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01519.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1910" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01519.jpg" title="DSC01519" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
We then ordered a special of the day which was a <strong>Tagliatelle with White Truffle Sauce</strong> which was essentially a simple brown truffle flavoured sauce served over handmade tagliatelle finished off with a few shavings of white truffle. The taste was pretty subtle and a tad too muted for me. Perhaps I have a preference for more bold flavours but this was just a moderate dish for me. I also prefer the taste of black truffles to white so maybe that's why I wasn't jumping with joy over this dish.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01519.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01524.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1911" height="698px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01524.jpg" title="DSC01524" width="393px" /></a></div><br />
Our last main for the night was the<strong> Risotto ai porcini con scaloppa di fegato grasso e spuma al Reggiano</strong> which was Porcini mushroom risotto with seared foie gras and parmesan foam. It was also topped with some white truffle shavings. The risotto actually tasted quite good but its falling grace was that the it was a tad too al dente to our taste. It could use a couple minutes more on the stove and maybe a couple of ladle of broth to get it the right texture but it was still pretty good tasting.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc01524.jpg"></a><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015291.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1912" height="368px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015291.jpg" title="DSC01529" width="655px" /></a><br />
<br />
For desserts I was the only one with some space left so I ordered a <strong>Martini ai quattro cioccolati</strong> which was described to be four different type of chocolate in martini glass. I personally only taste 2 and of the 2, one was really bad. The top layer was a chocolate mousse combined with a panna cotta which I felt had too much gelatin making to too chewy and just yuck. The based a chocolate cake/brownie which was a bit too dry. All in all the dessert was bad.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015351.jpg"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1913" height="698px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dsc015351.jpg" title="DSC01535" width="393px" /></a></div><br />
The meal definitely started on a good note but ended not so great and this was disappointing considering I was there a few weeks prior to christmas and I enjoyed my meal hence the decision to have our christmas dinner there... Dishes to try if you do go is would be the pappardelle with lamb ragout (only if you dont mind the taste of lamb as it is quite apparent) and the seafood pizza both of which were good the last time I tried.<br />

From the outside, you would think it no different from a normal hawker coffee shop... but step inside and you are welcomed into this cosy little air conditioned restaurants lines with liquor bottles all around... There was only 7 tables in the room, which is why reservation is highly recommended...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0761.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="300px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0761.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div>To one side is a display of the fresh ingredients/seafood for the day... This uncle here takes your orders and when we asked what is their Signature Dish? His answer was simple "No signature dish, all is good. No need to ask where the source of the ingredients are from, as long as it taste good, that should be good enough!!" ..... and he was right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0611.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0611.jpg?w=225" width="300px" /></a></div>On the other side was a counter and the liquor cabinet lining the walls.... That guy on the phone, is no ordinary guy. He got skills... you will know what I mean further down this post.... :)<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0621.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="300px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0621.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div>To start of the dinner... let me introduce you to the sauces... haha!! This is a traditional teowchew tauchu with chilli sauce which is best eaten with the steam fish...<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0631.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0631.jpg?w=225" width="300px" /></a></div>Next up is the sambal..and this is no ordinary sambal which you get at other regular restaurants... This has ikan bilis in them... plenty... It was Yum....!!!<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0641.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0641.jpg?w=225" width="300px" /></a></div>Okay... to start the night off we had the Oyster Noodles which was highly recommended and every table seems to have ordered one... it was just yellow noodles fried hokkien style but with Oysters in them... Unless you are an oyster fan, this is nothing to shout about... Too oyster-ish for my taste....<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0661.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0661.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Next we had the steam fish teowchew style... what other style can you order in a teowchew restaurant right? haha!! This was definitely the highlight for me... It was steamed just right... not over nor under done and the fish was fresh... the broth has just the right level of saltiness that made the whole dish work... It was so good I ordered another one at the end of our meal...<br />
<div><br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0681.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0681.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Oh ya... remember the guy at the counter... well he is highly skilled at cutting the fish up... he cuts and debones the entire fish in 22 precise cuts... Cool huh?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0721.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0721.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Another dish which was recommended by fellow bloggers was the fried soft shell crab... Although not a traditional teowchew dish but this was really well done... the batter was crunchy and the sweet sauce which accompanied the dish just complimented the taste of the crabs...<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0691.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0691.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>We were recommended the Bitter Gourd and Pork Ribs stew by the uncle and we gladly agreed... This was an extremely small dish but it tasted really good..the bitter gourd has just a slight twang of bitterness to it and it was soft to the bite... The pork ribs were small little succulent pieces of meat and the sauce was heavenly... Best eaten mixed with rice (which my eldest sis refused to the dismay of the owner)... It was thickened with yam instead of starch so it has a slight hint of yam in the aftertaste...<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0711.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0711.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Next up was the fried mince pork balls.. This was pretty good... It was not spectacular but it was pretty good for pork balls... :)<br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0701.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0701.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Now, the final and apparently most popular dish which the uncle insisted we should end our meal with... Ohnee! Or better known as yam paste served with ginko and pumpkin... I need to say upfront that I am not a chinese dessert kinda person (especially when they are pasty) but I gave it a try since it was highly recommended... I am now a convert... This ohnee was soooo good.. the texture was smooth and taken with the pumpkin it gave just the right balance of yammy gooey-ness and sweetness from the pumpkin... Really good.. no wonder this was their one and only dish which has been commercialised.<br />
<div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0731.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0731.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Look at the consistency of the yam... beautiful....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0741.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="480px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/23dec20102b0741.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This is definitely one restaurant I would highly recommend if you are heading to Malacca... I am a malaccan and I only knew of this place recently.. How embarassing... :( Forget about the satay celup or the chicken rice balls... those are just hyped up food.. This is the real deal... just simple delicious teowchew dishes done very well...<br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Erm... just got a call from my fren BP, and the complimentary wine was not exactly complimentary... It was compliments from him... the restaurant botched up the order along with a cake which was suppose to appear. Apparently they decided to just use the cake my sis bought... Hmm... no wonder the service was so good... hahaha!! Now I got to re-think my re-visit.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Anyway, thank you BP!!! I turned 29 yesterday.... my last year in my twenties... I am officially aging...hahah!! Luckily there are still ppl who mistaken me for being younger than I really am... :)</div><br />
This year my family decided to go to Favola in Le Meridien Hotel to celebrate my birthday... The place looks more like a Jester's court than an italian restaurant but oh well...<br />
<br />
Upon taking our seats the waitress asked whether we would like to have wine as it was complimentary. We could not believe our ears and asked again... Complimentary? and she said yes! How odd, it rarely happens in Malaysia... but anyhow we decided to pass on it...<br />
<br />
Now here begins the food... Of course we had the customary bread... bread was quite good...the dip was not as good as the spread in Prime but not too bad either.. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc01332.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc01332.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Then came the starters... We ordered Garlic and Thyme Roasted Portobello served with Spinach and Lombardi Tellegio Cheese... When it came it looked like oysters to me... doesnt it? and the taste was nowhere near a mushroom...the pile of spinach and cheese on it overpowered the mushroom totally... I was not a happy camper... Come on... I like my mushrooms, mushroomy!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013541.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013541.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013471.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013471.jpg?w=168" width="225px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013421.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013421.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013381.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013381.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div>Luckily they redeemed themselves with the next appetizer. Fritto Mistro de Mare which was basically deepfried seafood with a spicy tomato dip... This was good..the sauce tasted really good and they had a combination of calamari, prawns, fish and scallops..Next my sis wanted the Zuppa de Pesce ala Marinara which was a seafood with saffrom soup... Urrrgghhh... I did not like it..it was waaaay too clamy tasting for me but my sis liked it so oh well.. to each its own... :)Then came our mains...First up was Bianco Pizza which was sauteed beef strips with wild mushroom and this was pretty good I must say... my mum liked this dish the most... It had good flavours...<br />
<br />
We also ordered the Risotto ai Funghi Selvatici e Parmigianno which is risotto with wild mushroom and permesan cheese... This was quite good too.. texture of the risotto was spot on but they were a tad too heavy handed with the cheese in my opinion....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc0134612.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1876" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc0134612.jpg?w=300" title="DSC01346" width="640px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Last main of the nite was the Manzo e Patate Ravioli which was essentially braised beef and potato ravioli served with smoked black truffle butter sauce... I liked this dish... I thought the texture of the pasta was good and the filling was nice albeit the potato was a bit too crunchy for potatoes...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013651.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="358px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013651.jpg?w=300" width="640px" /></a></div><br />
<br />
and lastly we ordered the famous Illy Coffee Tiramisu... this was the ultimate disappointment... It was really not good... It just made me miss the tiramisu in Neroteca... :( they really should not say it is their speciality when it doesnt taste all too great...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013701.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dsc013701.jpg?w=168" width="225px" /></a></div>I need to tell you this story before I proceed... somewhere towards the end of the meal the waitress came up to us again and said... "would you like me to pack the wine to go? We can put it in a bag for you to take home" and we were like thinking .... Wow! they are really desperate to let us have the wine... It was virtually like forcing it down our throats... They must have never had anyone said no to a complimentary wine...hahahaha!! So we said yes... Just an additional bottle for us to bring for house warming parties then... :D<br />
<br />
So back to my birthday celebration.. when the tiramisu came we were stuffed... we had actually decided not to cut the cake and just bring it home but lo behold while we were having our tiramisu the manager and a few of the staff came over with the cake and sang me a birthday song..that was really nice and unexpected... Top marks for service definitely!! :D Thoughout the nite they were pretty attentive but this was one step up from just be attentive.. They were proactive... :D For that itself, I might just come back and try the other things on the menu... Since the dinner had some hits and some misses..<br />

Suggested we have dim sum at Reunion; Bangsar Village II. It was highly recommended by many and I soon learnt why... :)<br />
<br />
We started off with some "Siu Loong Pao" and "Char Siew Pao" which as usual, I forgot to take picture off... hahah!! But the Siu Loong Pao was really well done... the skin was just right to hold the juice in but still thin enough to not be flourey... :) The char siew pao was really fluffy... nice!!! :D<br />
<br />
So now with the pictures... There is the standard "Siu Mai" and "Har Kow" which was good for sui mais and har kows standards but they are afterall just standard items...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012161.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012161.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012171.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012171.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div>Then we had egg tarts which were really nice... Not too sweet and the crust was thin and flaky...</div><br />
<div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012181.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012181.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
Next was the "Char Siew Sou" which was also really good.. what I really liked bout all the dim sum is the amount of filling..the skins were always thin making room for plenty of fillings...</div><br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012191.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012191.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div></div><br />
<div>Next up was "Wu Kok"... Jae likes it but me not so much..felt the yam skin was not well done and the filling was not so great as well. Oh well, to each its own....</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012261.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012261.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">We also ordered some fried carrot cake.... It was definitely tasty...liked it that it was a bit spicy.... :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012221.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012221.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Another sweet offering.... "Ma Lai Kou"... direct translation would be Malay Cake but then it isnt malay at all.... haha!! This one was a bit of disappointment... The taste was there but the texture I felt was not fluffy enough... Definitely not as good as the restaurant in Bangsar Shopping Centre..</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012211.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012211.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Oh and we had some barbeque meat... Yum yum!!! the "Char Siew" was melt-in-your-mouth good.. texture and taste... :)</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012231.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012231.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">We also had "Siu Yok" which I felt wasnt crispy enough on the skin... :( but once again Jae liked it...hahah!!</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012241.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012241.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">All it all it was a really really good... It does live up to its recommendations... This same restaurant actually has a great menu for normal chinese dining as well... Highly recommended except that this place is a tad pricey...</div><br />
<br />

<br />
I was a nice sister this year... Got her a birthday card which cost me RM30... Then I ordered a Durian Mousse cake to be sent to her office to surprise her... :) No pictures though coz it was eaten up by her colleagues... Haih...damn expensive cake.. :( But I got a slice and I could taste why it was so costly.. It was no mousse my fren... It was Durian... literally... durian just slathered between layers of vanilla cake... yum yum!! :D<br />
<br />
So for dinner we initially wanted to try this place which says Korean Fine Dining which we came across at Pavillion... see see when we went in and opened the menu. It was the same (or maybe with less variety) as any other korean restaurant in town..and probably less authentic... So what is so fine dining bout that? Cheh! So we walked out back... hahah!!<br />
<br />
Decided to try out Angus House - Japanese Charcoal Steak instead. It was definitely a good choice.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012141.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012141.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012151.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012151.jpg?w=168" width="225px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Initially the menu didnt give us much confidence and it was sparse... All you get to choose was which part of the cow u wanted and whether you wanted the full course or ala carte. So we went for the course and this was what we got....</div><br />
For starters it was a fish with potato thingy... tasted not too bad...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc011911.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc011911.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Then came the soup, it was pumpkin soup that day.... not too shabby as well...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc011961.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc011961.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Then came the salad... forgot to take picture so I let u see the empty plate.. Obviously the japanese dressing was really good or else u would not see my salad plate so empty...haha!!</div><div><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012011.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012011.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Then came the main course... jeng jeng jeng!! This is my sister's 250gms tenderloin in japanese sauce... It was pretty good...</div><div><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012021.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012021.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">But nothing compared to my 250gms sirloin which was cooked to perfection... still juicy but not bloody and it was really tender and tasty... Mmmmm.... nice!!! As u can see from the picture, I dugged in before I could take the picture...hehe!!</div></div><div><div style="text-align: left;">Look at that...doesnt it look yummy?<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/dsc012111.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">So after that cam dessert which I (oops) forgot to take a photo of... but it was just an okay cake... so nothing to shout about compared to the Durian Mousse... Each course was about Rm150 so it wasnt too bad.... but since I have to foot the whole bill... "Ouch!!!"</div><br />

<br />
Wanted to share this super unique maki that I had at Yuzu, The Gardens the other day. It supposedly has crab and unagi in it an it is stacked in twos like towers and drenched with some special sauce... Mmmm... yummmeeeee!!! Now you see it...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/img_01481.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="300px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/img_01481.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Now you dont!! :D</div><br />

So this weekend I made the filling...<br />

<br />
Potatoes...<br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01171.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01171.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div></div><br />
Onions and garlic and we are ready...<br />
<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01172.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" class="aligncenter" height="400px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01172.jpg?w=168" width="225px" /></a></div>All fried up...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011731.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011731.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div></div><br />
<div>Pastry ready?</div><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Time to get to work...</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011791.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="223px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011791.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Now ready for the oven....</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011811.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011811.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Bake bake bake!!! Tadaa!!!</div><div><br />
<div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011841.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011841.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Yum yum... but unfortunately it's not very fluffy... mummy said I was too hardworking at flattening the pastry dough that I flattened the fluff away... sniff sniff...</div><div><br />
<div><img alt="" border="0" height="224px" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011861.jpg?w=300" width="400px" /></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Well, we can always try again... :) It still tasted good...</div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-3914464642238423162010-07-05T02:04:00.000-07:002011-05-03T09:44:35.283-07:00My little pasta adventure....Over the weekend I was feeling hardworking.... hhehe!! actually over the past week I was feeling hardworking so I started to plan for a weekend pasta making session... Yups... my very own pasta... so lets see how it goes...<br/><br/>First we start of with the basic flour well and pop 3 eggs in.... mix slowly until all the egg and flour combined... then you knead the dough until it is smooth.... Then you roll out the dough into a flat sheet and cut out rectangular pieces... I was attempting to make lasagna hence the rectangular size... :)<br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01092.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc01092.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a> Here they are... all nicely cut but not in exact shapes...haha!!<br/><br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc010961.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc010961.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a> Now we need to lay em up... no pictures of the sauce making coz that was my sister's job...haha!! she is the cook in the family.... :) So my hands were occupied with the dough while she was cooking... then I accidently forgot to take pictures of the lay-up process.... but it goes like this: Sauce, pasta, sauce, grated mozarella, pasta, sauce, grated mozarella etc... go on and finish up with the last pasta then sauce and a layer of parmesan cheese.... unfortunately my sis underestimated her portions so instead of the 6 layers which I intended to do, we only got 4 and the top layer didnt have sauce.. :( so it was pasta then cheese.... and the outcome is?<br/><br/> <br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011051.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011051.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>Looks pretty decent I suppose except for the fact that the sheet has turn crispy since the pasta and cheese had dried out and hardened... :( here's a closer view...</div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011071.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011071.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Now let's see em layers.... tadaa!!! :D<br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011141.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011141.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Looks not too bad.... appetising? :) Here's my slice... yum yum!! but not so many layers huh? Well as long as it taste good... Intially after boiling the pasta (my sis did it) she insisted my pasta was not good coz it was too chewy... I was so sad... :( But after it went into the oven and came out... It was the perfect consistency... yaay!! Just the right bite in them.... hehe!! Yippee!!!<br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011121.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011121.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Now what do I do with my additional 2 layers which did not make it into the pan?<br/><div><br/><br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011031.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011031.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a><br/><br/>We make it into fettucini of course... haha!! We shall have that for dinner... just eat em with some ikan bilis sambal... Mmmm..... Looks authentic rite?<br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011231.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011231.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>At the same time while the lasagna was baking, I also had a go at making my very own cream of mushroom soup... just bought my handheld blender... those that looks like the ones on the AFC channel which they stick into the pot and blend... ya ya... :D So first off is the fry the mushrooms with butter and onion until brown then pour in the stock and bring to boil... then let it simmer for 20 mins then blend... after blending we add in the creme fraiche and stir well.... I skipped the tarragon eventhough I bought it coz while I was chopping it up it just smelt uuurggghh... so lets not... haha!!</div><br/><div><br/><br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011011.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011011.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a><br/><br/>Oops... missed blending one... hmm... how did that happen? Nvm, just pick it out and eat it up...hehe!!<br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011111.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011111.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>The final outcome was surprisingly good... hehe!! though I might have been a bit too generous with the creme so it had a slight tang of sourness but all in all it was quite good for a first try... Elaine can vouch for it... hehe!! Can semi-rival the ones in the restaurant... muahaha!!</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>My bowl of soup....<a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011191.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/dsc011191.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a> But you wouldnt believe how much this whole meal cost... The soup itself was RM60 for the entire pot (serves 7) and the lasagna was another RM60 for the whole pan (serves 8)... This was one costly meals... such ingredients are so expensive in Malaysia... :(<br/><br/>Anyway... since it doesnt happen so often it is okay I suppose... :)<br/><br/>P/S: That nite my mum boiled the fettucini and said it was the perfect dough... very well made.. it was my not so smart sister who under boiled it so it became chewy...sheesh! should never trust her...haha!!<br/><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/> Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-91185275190630146882010-04-01T02:08:00.000-07:002011-05-03T09:44:35.283-07:00My First Bento Attempt!!Me was hardworking today.... :D<br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div>I woke up at 0630hrs to start on my bento. So here is my journey...</div><br/><div>Prepared everything last nite... Fried rice, fried sausages and omelette cut out into various shapes... :) today is only assembly.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>First step: Line all my bento containers up. Yup! I am ambitious... making 4 at one go... hehe!!</div><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026221.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/></div><br/>Second step: Disassemble the containers and line them up for filling. Fill up main compartment with fried rice.<br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026241.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026261.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><div>Third step: Skewer the fried sausages so they look cute!! Bento is meant to look cute not practical. Hehe!!</div><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026341.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><div>Fourth step: Place in the cut omelette so that the shapes can be seen.</div><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026311.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026271.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/></div><br/><div>Fifth step: Assemble back all the bento sets...</div><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026351.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/></div><br/><div>Sixth step: Strap them up coz they are going for a ride!!! :D Just so they dont fall apart along the way...</div><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026391.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dsc026421.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><div>Seventh step: Apa lagi? I actually bought all my bento stuff last year but never got around to doing it.... so *pats on my back* me proud of meself... hehe!!</div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div>Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-3853628315403525722010-01-29T02:16:00.000-08:002011-05-03T09:44:35.283-07:00The Soju myth...If you are a fan of korean movies or have just seen one passingly I am sure you would have noticed a scene where they ate and drank Soju (usually followed by a drunk scene). They would pour a pec of soju into a small glass and down it as a shot... then they would crinkle their face and let out a sorta sigh... One would imagine that must be some potent stuff right?<br/><br/>So I got curious.... I decided that since I was having some Korean a few nites back, I might as well re-enact the infamous scene... haha!! I even convinced my fren to down the shot like in the movies... So Kan Pei!!!!<br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc02428.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc02428.jpg?w=225" border="0" alt="" /></a> The outcome of it was unfortunately quite disappointing... It wasnt potent at all... I mean the achohol level was 19.5% so it wasnt really high... but there was no sharp piercing feeling when you down it at one shot!! None at all!!! Even a normal vodka, tequila or whisky was a better kick... this just went smoothly down... So now I know what those actors were doing in the movies.. "Acting lor".... Haha!! I got conned... but I would recommend this drink to anyone who wants to have a go...It's quite nice to drink... :)Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-59163779630225821712010-01-29T01:45:00.000-08:002011-05-03T09:44:35.283-07:00Precious find...So... I meant to blog this much earlier on but never got myself to do it... I am such a procrastinator... haha!! Anyway... I wanted to share my precious little find tucked in the corner of Central Market... From the looks of it you wouldnt have thot anything great was there... boy was I wrong.... Herein lies one of the best Nyonya food I have ever had....<br/><br/> <br/><br/><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024061.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024061.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a><br/><br/>Inside the restaurant it was filled with antique furniture... Every table and chair was of different size and shapes... The decor was very peranakan...<br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024051.jpg?w=225" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024021.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024011.jpg?w=225" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/>And they had giant tables and chairs... my feet couldnt even touch the floor when I sat down.. of course it is partly due to my lack of height as well but lets not dwell there.... ;)<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024041.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /><br/><br/>As for the food... yum yum!!! It was really so good... we had ju hu char as appetisers but we were so hungry we whallop it all before I could snap a pic.... Even the food below was snapped halfway eating... We had kangkung belacan, belacan omellete, devil's curry chicken and of course lobak!!!<br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023931.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023931.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>One more item which I found was extraordinarily yummy was the nasi lemak rice... Basically rice cooked with santan and with blue flower for the Nyonya touch. It was so fluffy you knew immediately it was steamed rice and not those from a normal rice cooker.... It was really really good...</div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023921.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023921.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div></div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023961.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023961.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>Oh I should not forget to mention the ice lemon tea... Yes you read right... Ice Lemon Tea...theirs was as authentic as it gets...really good stuff.... I was one happy camper...or eater.... haha!!</div><br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc023991.jpg?w=225" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/>I am obviously not the only one to extoll the virtues of this place... check out the crowd... ironically not many locals know of this place... instead it is packed with foreigners who are either living in Malaysia or visiting.... Being that it is located in a tourist center, I suppose no local actually bothered to check out this place assuming it's just normal food with premium prices... Although it is a tad pricey but definitely worth it.... trust me...<br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024031.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024031.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Precious Old China was definitely a precious find.... :) Glad my mum's fren recommended the place.....<br/><div><address><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024081.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/dsc024081.jpg?w=225" border="0" alt="" /></a>Precious Old China<br/>Lot M2, Central Market<br/>Tel : 03 - 2273 7372</address></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/></div><br/> Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-48020535239321058932009-09-18T11:25:00.000-07:002011-05-03T09:44:35.283-07:00Alter ego...Yesterday I made my mooncake's alter ego.... the snowskin... There is 3 in particular which I have always wanted to learn..<br/><div>1. Bak Chang (chinese dumplings)</div><br/><div>2. Mooncake</div><br/><div>3. Lin Kou</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>Well I have done the first a number of times and this year I felt extra hardworking so I attempted the second one... So here is my journey...</div><br/> <br/><div>I was highly ambitious so I tried both lotus paste filling and red bean paste filling... fuiyoh!! talk about an ambitious first time!! :D</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>First you start of with the beans... Red bean is pretty easy... You got the beans... cook them til soft... blend them... sieve them... cook them for an hour and a half...</div><br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/redbean1.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/><div></div><br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039481.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/><div></div><br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039571.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/>Tadaa!!! all done.... still took about 5 hours as a whole though....<br/><br/>Next up... the lotus paste... now this one is kinda a toughie.... first you need to remove the pith from the 'lin chi' (lotus seeds) so that you dont get the bitterness of it... Then you boil it to soften the shell....<br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039461.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/><div style="text-align:center;"></div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039471.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039471.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/><div>Then you soak it and piece by piece remove the shell... Fuh!! This was back breaking work.. took me 3 hours to remove all the skin....</div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039531.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039531.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Clean babies.... they then go into the pot.. cook til soft... blend then sieve... then cook for about an hour and a half again....<br/><div><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039541.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></div><br/><div></div><br/><div><br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039591.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039591.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Waalah!!! the paste is at last ready.... I slept at 2am to finish this... haiz.... the things I do for tradition..... Next morning it's rise and shine.... time to make the outer skin... after again having a mixture left over nite now I gotta mix the flour in til I get a dough consistency...<br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039781.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039781.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>Shape the fillings into little balls...<br/><div><br/><div><a href="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039811.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/dsc039811.jpg?w=300" border="0" alt="" /></a></div><br/>I am ready to make wrap the filling in my mooncake skin.... All threats from the more spiffy likes of Burger King, Carls Junior, Wendy and so many more... No other burger hits the spot like this fella over here... <div><div><div></div><br /><div>Still operated from a shack like stall on wheels with a flat pan to fry/grill the patties, a scraper that acts as a egg yolk breaker cum egg wrapper, the original Ajinamoto pepper and maggi seasoning and worchestershire sauce for the added tastiness... not to forget the lightly planta-ed bread grilled slightly the flat pan and then piled with a smattering of raw cabbage shreads, chili sauce and mayo.... </div><div></div><br /><div>Who else can I be talking about? Most definitely our dear old Ramly burger... Ramly has truly stood the test of time... What did I have last week? Most definitely the "Burger Ayam Special Double" to appease my appetite... hehe!!! It still taste exactly how I remembered it... Absolutely DELICIOUS!!!</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><img alt="" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/ramly1.gif?w=260" border="0" /></div></div></div>Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809841597563076962.post-37775295970821473942009-04-17T02:22:00.000-07:002011-05-03T09:44:35.284-07:00Dinner at BONThis place shall be my new found favourite Korean restaurant... :D<br /><br />Came here once with Ching Yee, Jae and Renee... Thot the food was pretty decent... Had a craving for Soondubu again last nite and the recent few I had didnt cut it close... so I went to BON again, sat down and ordered my Soondubu.... :D<br /><br />Lo behold, I was shocked at the amount of side dishes given to me!!! Tadaa!!!<br /><img alt="" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/dsc015351.jpg?w=300" border="0" /><br />Count em baby...hahaa!! 9!!! Yes 9!! I think the past few times I ate alone in a korean restaurant, they prolly served around 4-5 max... This was 9 full servings and all were super yummy so Aichin became a glutton... haha!! But it was really good.. It is very rare that all the side dishes served are good.. Usually there will always be those nasty tasting ones that you wont eat... but this time... It was all good.... :)<br /><br />Next up... my Soondubu!!! :D Basically Toufoo and Egg soup with some clams and shrimps.... This place does it the best!! At least from all the ones I have tried la... It is nice and spicy just the way I like it and way tasty.... They got good paste and sauce I suppose... :) NICE!!!<br /><img alt="" src="http://justsimplyfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/dsc015381.jpg?w=300" border="0" /><br />Ai li got jealous when I told her I went to eat Korean so guess what? I will prolly be going again on Sunday!! :D heheh!! Maybe this time we will try the Yukkaejang or the Bibimbap or the Bulgogi or some barbeque meat... We shall see how hungry we are then.... Korean is definitely best eaten in a big (well bout 4-6) group so that you can have more variety and try out their more interesting dishes which comes in huge pots.. :) Too bad it's only me and my sis...<br /><br />Looking forward to this Sunday!!! Wheee!!! Greedy me!!!Nihciahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994933430416754099noreply@blogger.com0
